The Shine Collective ‘gets’ the regional business story

From the spare bedroom of her home, looking after one part-time contract, Jacky James could never have imagined her communications agency would grow as much or fast as it has.

In just six years, The Shine Collective has grown exponentially from a home-based, one-person operation to a business with offices in Rotorua and Tauranga, seven staff, and clients across New Zealand and Australia.

James says the pace of the growth has been “amazing”.

“We live in a world where communication is at everyone’s fingertips, but knowing how best to reach those you want to listen, is more important than ever before.”

She takes great satisfaction in being able to run an award-winning strategic communications consultancy from the regions, working with clients throughout the country and across the Tasman.

“One of the biggest advantages of our Bay of Plenty location, and the work we do, is that we ‘get’ the regions and their people.” she says.

“We understand regional business, industry and communities, and the unique challenges and opportunities that are presented in the regions.  Equally, we have all spent time working in the cities so we can bridge both environments easily.”

James says the nature of the work means the business is also making a significant contribution to the success of the local economies, by supporting clients to grow and achieve their own business objectives.

Rebrand reflects diversity

The diversity of work saw the business rebrand this year to The Shine Collective – to better reflect its strategy and project management expertise, as well as the integrated communications work it has become known for.

“We have a proven track record on small and large projects, and on a local, regional and national level.  It’s this record, and recommendations from our clients, that have seen us grow at the rate we have.

“Our biggest asset is our team, and we draw on the strengths and skills of each person to deliver outstanding results for our clients – from strategic communications, community engagement and issues management, through to marketing communications, social media and event management.

“We firmly believe every business has a story – the magic is in the telling.”
